A regular award winner, this unoaked organic Greek red wine from Xinomavro grapes mixes raspberry and smoky notes that wine critic Jancis Robinson compares to an Italian Nebbiolo. The wine maker Apostolos Thymiopoulos is widely described as a rising star on the Greek wine scene after taking over his family’s vineyard in the early 2000s. The vineyard is roughly on the same parallel as Bordeaux and produces wines that are some of Greece’s most complex.
